Blogging Versus Social Media

Digital marketing is like a tree with several branches.

Several elements come together to make the tree bloom.

Social media isn’t enough. Blogging isn’t enough. Instead, they work in tandem.

Post an image here, use a few hashtags there, repost something that you found interesting…do everything that you think you should to create a seemingly active social media page and your audience will magically grow.

Wrong!

Using social media in isolation won’t move the ROI needle in your business. You could keep posting and purchasing paid advertisements until you’re blue in the face; it just won’t work the way you desire.

Don’t make it a choice between social media and blogging. Your social media presence is pointless without blogging. Here’s why.

Blogging Establishes Your Brand As a Thought Leader

Depending solely on paid advertisements to get your name out there is a foolhardy strategy. What are people going to think when they visit your social media page and see content that either isn’t relevant to your brand or numerous content pieces that you repost from other sources?

Check out these statistics for a minute:

  1. There have been 474,000 tweets per minute throughout 2019.

  2. There are 69,444 posts on Instagram per minute.

  3. More than 38,000 status updates occur on Facebook every minute.

Social media users are bombarded with content every minute. Therefore, you want your content to stand out. Your social media presence should be used to establish your brand as a thought leader rather than a brand that just reposts content from other sources.

Regular blog posting helps you accomplish this. Find topics that your audience is curious about and write about them. You can then share these insightful posts on your social media platforms and show your followers that you really know your stuff!

A Social Media Manager Can Do Little Without Original Content

Small business owners often hire social media managers and expect them to work miracles. Even the most experienced social media managers can’t help you build a strong social media page if you aren’t producing original content.

Content isn’t restricted to blogs. You can also use video clips and photos but blogging is still important. Stevie Snow sums it up nicely by saying that,

“Blog posts are the bread and butter of your content strategy and while your words are responsible for building the narrative, visual elements play a pivotal role in making blog posts [more] compelling.” Stevie Snow

Your social media manager will excel if you provide a great mixture of original content to work with.

Blogging Adds Life to Your Website

I gasp in my mind when a small business owner tells me he or she doesn’t have a website. The horror! Establishing a strong digital presence is difficult without a website. It’s not impossible but it’s difficult.

A blog adds the content element that your website needs to be found in search engines. The more content you consistently produce with the right use of keywords, the greater the chances of your website ranking on the first page of a search engine such as Google.

Social Media is Nothing Without Blogging

There is no competition between blogging and social media; they depend on each other. The narrow perspective of social media only being useful to post a few random things needs to be cast out of your mind. Let me help you create the right synergy between your blog posts and your social media. Schedule a strategy session and let’s get cracking!
